Northern Heights High School has a new head football coach for the upcoming fall season.
During a special meeting of the USD 251 Board of Education Tuesday evening, the board approved the hiring of Todd Callahan to fill the vacancy. Callahan was not in attendance for Tuesday’s meeting, however, Superintendent Bob Blair says this is an exciting hire for the district.
Darwin Sweetman stepped down as the head football coach at Northern Heights this spring after one year at the helm and several years as an assistant.
In addition to Callahan, the board also approved the hiring of Drew Carney as the assistant football coach and Angie Becker as the new head softball coach.
There are still a number of coaching vacancies needing to be filled at Northern Heights including the head girls basketball, assistant volleyball, assistant track and assistant softball coaching positions. Blair says he is hopeful they will be able to fill those positions during the board’s next regular meeting in August.
