The hottest air in our current heat wave is coming to close out the work week.
Air temperatures are set to reach 98 Wednesday in Emporia, followed by 99 Thursday and 100 Friday. Heat index readings could be anywhere from 102 to 110 each day.
Heat advisories now continue for all area counties until 9 pm Thursday but could be extended. Tuesday’s high temperature in Emporia was 96 with a peak heat index reading of 106. In Eureka, the high temperature was 94 with a top heat index of 106.
Be sure to drink lots of water and stay in air conditioning as long as possible. If you work outside, take frequent breaks and shift the work schedule so the heaviest activity happens in the morning or evening. Don’t leave children or pets in vehicles.
Speaking of vehicles, Kansas AAA spokesman Shawn Steward joins KVOE at 8:40 am Wednesday to talk about the impact heat can have on cars and trucks as well as tips to avoid heat-related issues.
