A candidate for Council Grove mayor has died after a motorcycle wreck early Wednesday.
Max Byram and a passenger, Jordan Kelly, were killed when a motorcycle driven by Byram crashed on Dam Road about a mile north of Council Grove around 12:30 am. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Byram failed to negotiate a curb and hit a nearby guardrail. Both Byram, 28, and Kelly, 20, were ejected.
Neither were wearing helmets.
Byram was one of three people who had filed for Council Grove mayor for the upcoming election in November. He was also a member of the popular local band The Box Turtles.
Funeral arrangements are pending for both victims.
