A first court appearance is now listed for an Emporia man facing charges of rape and other violent offenses.
Brice Obermeyer has his first appearance Aug. 17 at 12:45 pm in Lyon County District Court.
Emporia Police began investigating July 10, shortly after alleged incidents between Obermeyer and a person in their early 50s allegedly happened. He’s now charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated burglary, lewd and lascivious conduct and other counts.
Obermeyer worked at Emporia State University from August 2004 to May 2019. He was an associate professor in the Sociology Department. He’s currently listed as an adjunct associate professor in the anthropology department at Johnson County Community College and has also served as tribal historic preservation officer for the Delaware Tribe of Indians.
