This Saturday, the Emporia community can get a first look at the newly renovated Abigail Morse Hall on the Emporia State campus.
Morse Hall was the first residence hall at ESU, opening in 1924. Since spring 2019, it has been closed as the interior of the hall was gutted and previous additions on the north and south ends were removed.
The updated Morse Hall will be open to the public so people can also admire the original finishes from the “old” Abigail into the final version.
Touches like the fronts of the old resident mailboxes as art, wall murals featuring old photos and handwritten notes from scrapbooks and nearly 100-year-old room doors as sides of the reception desk are some ways that the new Morse Hall connects to its historic past.
A short program will begin at 9 a.m. on the west side of Abigail Morse. Self-guided tours will begin immediately following the ribbon cutting, at approximately 9:30 a.m. The open house will end at 11 a.m., with the last tour starting at 10:30 a.m.
