The Wabaunsee County Health Department says it is tracking several cases of coronavirus linked to the county’s recently-completed fair.
The Health Department is not announcing the number of cases, but it says they came from people who attended the fair last weekend.
Health Department officials is advising residents to quarantine if they receive calls saying they are close contacts of confirmed patients. Wabaunsee County is also reminding residents to monitor themselves for potential symptoms like summer colds, hay fever, chills, body aches, Loss of taste and smell or fever. Residents should get tested for COVID-19 if they experience any, several or all of these symptoms.

Friday’s announcement by Wabaunsee County came shortly before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention divulged new evidence saying the delta variant, the most prevalent strain in Lyon County, in Kansas and across the country, is far more easily transmissible than the original version that started the pandemic early last year. It is also comparing the COVID-19 delta strain to more longstanding, highly-contagious diseases like chickenpox and measles for ease of transmission.
The CDC is not officially recommending a full return of mask usage or other steps like mandatory vaccines for doctors and other healthcare workers, but those steps are currently under consideration.
