COVID-19 numbers are up again in Lyon County.
After 14 new cases were announced Wednesday, Lyon County Public Health noted 12 new cases Friday. Active cases went from 38 to 42.
Public Health has now added one death, pushing the pandemic total to 87. Lyon County is now clear of deaths awaiting final cause from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Active hospitalizations went from one to two.
Overall, there have been 4,398 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began 16 months ago.
Variant presence has been an increasing concern for health officials across the area, state and country. Lyon County currently has 42 total cases, with 24 delta strain cases and 18 alpha strain cases. Statewide, the delta variant has accounted for almost 28 percent of total cases. That’s more than any variant strain affecting Kansas.
On vaccinations, Lyon County has 50.2 percent of its eligible population ages 12-plus that is fully vaccinated. No other area county is at 50 percent, although Morris County is the closest at 49.8 percent. When total population is concerned, Lyon County is at 42.9 percent fully vaccinated.
