An Emporia man is currently being held in the Harvey County Jail after an alleged incident late Sunday night in Newton.
Newton authorities say 24-year-old Devin Downs is awaiting formal charges from the Harvey County Attorney’s Office. Police say they were involved in a chase that ended with Downs’ vehicle crashing into a vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Newton woman, causing serious injuries to both drivers and trips to Wichita for medical treatment.
Downs is currently being held on suspicion of felony aggravated battery and flee and elude, DUI and driving with a suspended license.
Newton Police have not announced what led to the pursuit.

Newton Police officers say they are investigating after a pursuit allegedly involving an Emporia man late Saturday night.
A news release from the department says Newton Police were pursuing a 24-year-old man, name currently withheld, around 11 pm. The Emporian allegedly hit a car driven by a 57-year-old Newton woman, causing serious injuries to both people involved in the wreck. Both were taken to Wichita for medical treatment.
Officers say they expect felony charges will be filed, but that step has not taken place. No other people were hurt in the incident. The chain of events leading to the alleged pursuit have not been divulged.
