Two power poles were downed in north Emporia after a power line became ensnared on a semi-truck Monday afternoon.
According to Emporia Police Officers at the scene, the semi had just completed a delivery on Sherwood and had made a right onto Sheridan and another onto Mayfair when the lines came down. Indications are that a low-hanging line may have been caught on the trailer of the semi pulling one pole out of the ground and bringing another down in the intersection of Sheridan and Mayfair.
The accident left roughly 20 customers without power in the area. Evergy was able to restore power to the west side of the intersection shortly after the accident, however, a handful of customers on the east side are still offline.
Current estimations are that power will be fully restored by 7 pm. No injuries were reported and no citations will be issued at this time.
