Tyson Foods is now mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for its entire workforce.
Tyson announced Tuesday it needs all team members at its US office locations to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1. All other team members will need to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1, subject to ongoing talks with locations with union representation. As an incentive, Tyson is offering an extra $200 to its fully-vaccinated frontline workers — expanding the company’s policy of compensating workers for up to four hours of regular pay if they are vaccinated outside their normal shifts or through “external sources.”
More than 56,000 Tyson employees have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far, or almost half the company’s total workforce.
Tuesday’s announcement makes Tyson America’s largest food company to require full vaccination for its workforce. Tyson’s plant at Sixth and Prairie employs almost 1,000 workers, according to the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas’ annual business survey early this year.
