The Flint Hills Community Health Center is gearing up for National Health Center Week starting Sunday, but one of the main planned events is not taking place anymore.
The Stakeholders Event planned for Aug. 12 has been canceled as a way to limit the potential spread of COVID-19. Marketing Manager Justin Ogleby says the Health Center’s mission has “always been to provide personalized, convenient and affordable health care to everyone. Keeping people healthy is a main component of that mission, so we have decided to be cautious and cancel the event.”
Other Health Center Week activities currently remain on the schedule, including special recognitions:
*Monday: Homeless and public housing
*Tuesday: Agricultural workers
*Wednesday: Patient appreciation
*Friday: Staff appreciation
Ogleby says the decision was made to cancel the stakeholder activity because it had more public attendance planned. It’s the second cancellation of a health-related public gathering announced this week. Newman Regional Health announced the cancellation of Friday’s Denim and Diamonds main event on Tuesday.
Ogleby also says everybody coming into the Health Center at 420 West 15th needs to wear a mask, patients and staffers alike. The Health Center is also strongly encouraging vaccinations and social distancing.
