Initial unemployment claims trended slightly lower in Kansas as July continued, according to the Kansas Department of Labor.
The department recorded 1,524 initial claims for the week ending July 31, down slightly from the 1,671 claims for the week ending July 24 and the 1,726 for the week ending July 17. This is also substantially lower than the same timetable a year ago, which included over 4,660 initial claims for the week ending July 31, 2020.
Call center volume also tracked lower through July, with almost 20,400 unique calls for the week ending Aug. 2. The number was over 24,000 for the week ending July 26.
Residents receiving at least three straight weeks of unemployment benefits still need to take part in the My Reemployment Program. They will automatically be enrolled, but they will then have seven days from receiving a special information email to upload or build a resume at KANSASWORKS.com, complete an online job search as linked in the email and then email the complete form to the Department of Commerce.
