Lyon County deputies are investigating reports of check fraud and identity theft that apparently includes activity at other Kansas locations.
The Sheriff’s Office says the check fraud and identity theft victimized at least one county resident. Fraudulent purchases were apparently made at stores in Manhattan and Topeka, with an additional attempted purchase in Lawrence.
Surveillance video shows a woman making a purchase with one of the stolen checks. She was seen leaving that store in a white SUV with front-end damage.
Deputies are also investigating to see whether this is connected to an incident reported recently by Salina Police that allegedly involved fraudulent check activity in Salina and Emporia.
