The two teams each scored a single run in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings. Both teams scored 2 runs 10th inning. In the 11th the Yankees scored 3 runs and the Royals were unable to match that rally. Royals manager Mike Matheny was impressed with the way they kept battling.

The Royals Monday announced that they have promoted prospect MJ Melendez to Triple-A Omaha.
The 22-year-old catcher currently ranks second among all Minor League players with 28 home runs this season, spending the first part of the year with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Melendez was Kansas City’s second-round selection in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. He joins Bobby Witt Jr and Nick Prado as top prospects in Omaha.
