A KVOE listener reported basements flooded on Prairie and Woodland between Seventh and Eighth, with at least one property having two feet of sewage backed up in the basement. It’s the second time this year for this level of flooding for that area of town.
On the severe weather side, there was a confirmed 64-mph wind gust at the Emporia Municipal Airport and a healthy 10-inch tree blown down on a vehicle in the 700 block of South Weaver.
On top of those situations, over 1,000 Evergy customers across the KVOE listening area lost power overnight due to the storms, including almost 220 in the Emporia city limits. That peak was over 420 at the height of the storm activity. Better than 530 customers are offline from Lebo to Arvonia, with over 330 powerless from Allen and Admire southeast to Reading.
Looking ahead, there are several chances for showers and storms. However, TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says those chances are low and the risk of additional flooding is remote.
