Public memorial services have been announced for Max Byram and Jordan Kelley, both killed in a motorcycle accident outside Council Grove last month.
The service will be held during the city’s Seth Fest between 10 am and noon Aug. 21 at the Riverview Amphitheater. Byram’s funeral and burial will be part of private services.
Byram was one of three people who had filed for Council Grove mayor for the upcoming election in November. At the time of his death, he was also serving as the president of the Council Grove Arts Council. He was also heavily involved in several activities, including the founding of Seth Fest and committees for Council Grove’s sales tax and Fourth of July event list. He was also a member of the popular local band The Box Turtles and had built and founded a recording studio.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced for Jordan Kelley, Byram’s riding partner, who was also killed in the wreck. However, a memorial gathering has been set for 6 pm Sept. 4 at the Morris County 4-H Building. Kelley was an Emporia State University cheerleader and was a waitress at Coach’s Bar and Grill when she was killed.
Byram and Kelley were killed when a motorcycle driven by Byram crashed on Dam Road about a mile north of Council Grove. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Byram failed to negotiate a curb and hit a nearby guardrail. Both Byram, 28, and Kelley, 20, were ejected.
