Late last month, the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Board of Education adopted a tentative COVID-19 mitigation strategy. The board made no substantial changes to that policy as part of its meeting Monday night.
The board voted to keep mask use as highly recommended but not required except for certain situations. The only major change, according to Superintendent Mike Argabright, involves times when social distancing can’t happen.
Masks will also be needed on all district transportation. USD 252 is also following guidelines from the Kansas State High School Activities Association for athletic and extracurricular events.
Classes begin Thursday. Even though coronavirus is still part of the education picture, Argabright says the response effort is more familiar and more comfortable than it was a year ago. He credited staffers for their work on the planning side and in making sure students are as safe as possible.
