Emporia city commissioners have several land-related items on the agenda for their action session Wednesday night.
Commissioners may well approve the incentive compliance agreement set to bring three new retailers to the Emporia Pavilions development in northwest Emporia. On the table is a five-year, $100,000 forgivable loan to develop the build-out plan for over 50,000 square feet of retail space at 24th and Industrial.
Also on land matters, commissioners could:
*Approve a contract with HW Lochner for design work involving an extension of the runway at Emporia Municipal Airport.
*Approve bids for the sale of vacant lots at 902 Neosho and 1626 LaSalle.
*Approve a request to annex property in the 600 block of Road 180 into the city limits to help Westar move its local service headquarters from downtown.
*Discuss whether to have a public hearing to appeal the State Historic Preservation Office for 605 Commercial denying a mural on the Bourbon Cowboy property.
Off the land topic, commissioners will consider a letter of support to Lyon County for extending the current sales tax. The one-cent tax has been in place 12 years, and discussions are underway to extend the tax another 15 years. The city share of the county sales tax is up over $120,000 year-to-date from last year and local sales tax receipts are up over $250,000 year-to-date.
The meeting starts at 7 pm at the Municipal Court Room.
