Formal charges have been filed after a lengthy on-site negotiation and investigation process in east Emporia led to an arrest Monday.
Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman has filed one count of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal discharge of a weapon against Ronald W Schemm, age 43 of Emporia. The affidavit, or incident narrative, is sealed, but the legal complaint alleges Schemm tried to kill a woman and threatened two men with a 9mm handgun Sunday.
Schemm’s arrest followed a better than 16-hour investigation in the 900 block of Waverly Way that started with reports of a domestic violence situation Sunday. Officers arrived shortly before 7 pm Sunday and stayed until Schemm surrendered shortly after 11 am Monday. Emporia Police activated its Special Response Team after several attempts to set up a “safe apprehension,” according to Police Capt. Lisa Hayes.
Schemm’s first appearance in Lyon County District Court is tentatively set for 1:15 pm Thursday.
