Classes begin at Emporia State University on Monday, and the official move-in process begins Friday for all residence halls on campus.
The actual move-in process actually started this week as student teachers, athletes and international students have started getting acclimated to their new surroundings. Residence Life Director Cass Coughlin says certain procedures from last year — nods to COVID-19 — will remain in place.
Students will need to use Highland Street to get to the Memorial Union, where they will get their room keys. ESU is requiring documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or negative tests before students can continue. On KVOE’s Morning Show on Thursday, Coughlin says living spaces are cleaned as well as can be imagined.
Coughlin also says to-go meals, needed last year, will be an option this year. ESU has reusable clamshell containers that students can use. This year, students can use the regular dining facilities. They will need masks as they enter but can take them off as they eat.
As far as upcoming activities are concerned, ESU has its annual General Assembly in person at 2 pm Thursday at Webb Hall. The Welcome Back Block Party is from 5:30-7:30 pm Monday in downtown Emporia. ESU also debuts its Friday Night event with a concert featuring the Lucas Parker Band and Travis Martin on Aug. 27.
