After a short reprieve over the weekend the late August heat will be making a return to start the week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory affecting Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from noon to 7 pm Monday. The current forecast is calling for temperatures in the high 90s throughout the day.
Heat index readings could be as high as 102 to 105 meaning a risk of heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Residents should try to spend as much time in air conditioning as possible, drink lots of water and wear loose fitting clothing.
If you work outdoors try to move more strenuous activities to the morning or evening hours, take frequent breaks and try to limit your ammount of time in direct sunlight.
