“It’s been a confusing two years.”
That’s the assessment of Emporia Public Library Director Robin Newell, who has been navigating the facility through the raft of changes brought by COVID-19 and two major renovation projects.
The library had to cancel its reopening party set for this week due to the increase in coronavirus cases, but it remains fully open at this time. Newell says the library is following Lyon County’s COVID-19 mitigation policies, meaning mask use and social distancing are strongly encouraged.
Meanwhile, this has been a busy summer for the library on the renovation front. The roof’s atrium was recently replaced and now the roof itself is seeing work. The children’s patio is closed, but that’s a safety precaution linked to the roof project.
Looking ahead, the library is planning to start up its normal children’s storytime activities next month. The Emporia Friends of the Library’s fall book sale is tentatively taking place Sept. 11-16.
