Kansas residents planning a wedding the week of Sept. 8 are told to get their license requests filed to the state no later than Aug. 31 — and the earlier, the better.
Kansas Courts Public Information Director Lisa Taylor says the court system normally tells couples to allow two weeks for application processing. However, an Office of Vital Statistics database used in the process will be totally offline Sept. 8-13.
Taylor says unless unforeseen circumstances arise, couples applying for marriage licenses by Aug. 31 should have their paperwork in hand by Sept. 7.
Applications submitted after Aug. 31 will be processed after Sept. 14. Taylor says there is a three-day waiting period required by state law and courts start processing application periods after the waiting period is over.
