The Emporia Recreation Commission finalized a number of financial matters during their recent meeting Monday evening.
The ERC approved a resolution to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for 2022 before approving the 2022 general fund and employee benefit fund budgets in separate votes. The 2022 general fund budget comes out to a little over $4.6 million with an employee benefit fund of $539,959.
Rec Director Tom McEvoy says the general fund budget is an increase over the previous year’s budget thanks to an increase in productivity and a reduction in capital expenditures over the past year.
McEvoy says even though the commission has more headroom financially than last year, it still has to be cautious with spending over the course of the next fiscal year.
The employee benefit budget covers a range of costs including payroll taxes, workman’s compensation, health insurance and KPERS. McEvoy says he does not anticipate they will utilize the full available budget in the coming year, however, he feels it is better to have more money available and not need it.
The ERC will reconvene for its monthly meeting inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center in September.
