Emporia city commissioners are planning to have their entire study meeting Wednesday dedicated to budget matters.
The 2022 and five-year budget plans for all funds will receive their final discussions before the budgets are passed, likely at the Sept. 15 meeting. The discussion follows last week’s public comment, where Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann criticized the city’s plan to eliminate a five-year, 2-percent wage increase and 2.5-percent merit increase and use a tentative $1-per-hour increase and annual wage scale reviews.
Since 2008, the Consumer Price Index has increased by nearly 25 percent — but the last widespread raise for employees was a 2-percent increase in 2014.
The meeting starts at 10 am in the Municipal Court Room.
