Kansas governmental agencies under the jurisdiction of the executive branch will have to resume remote operations whenever possible under direction from Governor Laura Kelly.
The governor’s office announced the decision late Wednesday, with the governor saying the change from in-person to remote operations is “a necessary step to prevent COVID-19 infections.”
Other mitigation methods used at the start of the pandemic, including scheduling by appointment only and allowances for virtual interactions, will be encouraged. Mask requirements, social distancing and other COVID mitigation strategies will remain for state workers whose jobs have to be done on site.
State agencies moved from in-person to the remote model near the start of the pandemic last year. State employees started returning to office buildings in June.
The current plan is to maintain the remote work model through Oct. 4, with a reassessment at that time. The changeover is needed by Sept. 3.
