Newman Regional Health is taking registrations for its Stepping On program for older residents.
During a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show, Trauma Program Coordinator Alexa Parks said the number of falls at the hospital may surprise you.
The first workshop is Sept. 9 at the hospital’s Flint Hills Conference Room. The program is designed for residents ages 60 and older and for people who have either fallen or have a fear of falling. The seven-session program addresses exercises; safe movements; home hazards; vision, footwear and community safety; bone health, medication and better sleep; and general “getting out and about.”
Twenty-five percent of older adults have a fall each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Newman Regional Health says the methods presented through Stepping On can reduce falls by up to 30 percent.
