Kansas Congressman Tracey Mann wants American troops to stay in Afghanistan for as long as it takes to get US citizens out of that country.
Right now, troops have to leave by Tuesday — and Mann says that should not be the case.
Speaking with KVOE News on Monday, Mann echoed issues outlined by other Republicans earlier this month about the withdrawal process, including the planning and what he says is our reliance on the Taliban to ensure a relatively smooth process.
Mann’s comments came after Thursday’s pair of terror attacks killed almost 15 American soldiers, hurt close to 20 and killed or wounded hundreds of Afghans. They also come with around 250 Americans still trying to evacuate, according to ABC News.
Poll results announced Monday by ABC News indicate 80 percent of Americans think troops should remain in Afghanistan until all Americans are evacuated. Over 70 percent say troops should stay until all Afghans who helped the United States are also evacuated.
