Two products made here in the KVOE listening area have been named as two of the coolest new inventions in the state of Kansas this year.
The Kansas Manufacturing Council released its list of the 32 coolest products in the state as part of the annual Coolest Thing Made in Kansas Tournament. Among the nominees was the Terratek BD, biodegradable pellets that can be used for disposable packaging materials or containers made by Green Dot Bioplastics in Emporia, and made-from-scratch pies by Hometown Pie Company in New Strawn.
Terratek BD and Pies have the opportunity to keep the title of Coolest Thing Made in Kansas in the listening area this year after the EMP Shield made by Tim Carty of Burlington took home the title last year.
Voting for the first round of the tournament is now open and will help narrow the field to the top 16, top eight and eventually the final four. At that time, the top four inventions will then compete for the most votes with the winner being announced on Oct. 12 during the annual Kansas Manufacturing Summit at the Kansas Star Casino and Event Center.
