As hospitals across Kansas battle the latest surge in COVID patients on one side and public reactions ranging from hesitancy to outright hostility on the other, they are increasingly using statistical data to show the issues they are facing with patient treatment.
Newman Regional Health is developing a new data set that should be announced at any time over the next week or two. That set of stats will be released separately from the data announced three times a week by Lyon County Public Health.
Coffey Health System in Burlington, meanwhile, unveiled its first such data set Wednesday, reflecting patient movement between Aug. 22-28. It says the hospital is now calling over 60 hospitals on average to transfer patients needing intensive care and sending them over 230 miles for care on average.
The data released Wednesday has some positives. Testing is up noticeably from the prior week, while positive tests — 29 — were down slightly and the 21-percent positivity rate was actually down 11 percent from the previous week.
Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka and Morris County Hospital in Council Grove have not announced plans for these specialized data sets.
