The National Weather Service has canceled a tornado watch affecting portions of the KVOE listening area well ahead of the original expiration date.
The watch, encompassing Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties was originally set to go until midnight but was canceled just before 9:50 pm Thursday. Several weather-related warnings were also issued throughout the evening Thursday, however, they did not bare much in the way of storm activity in the listening area and have since expired.
The only report of any severe weather activity was reports of quarter-sized hail two miles north of Americus. Chances of storm activity will continue through the remainder of the week into the early half of the upcoming weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a 70 percent chance of precipitation Friday with thunderstorms also likely throughout the day and evening. Storm chances continue into Saturday with a 60 percent chance of precipitation in the forecast.
Conditions will settle Sunday with mostly calm and sunny conditions and highs in the upper 80s.

*Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Central Lyon County including Emporia, Americus and Reading until 9:45 pm
Main hazards include high winds capable of producing gusts as high as 60 mph with damaging hail up to one inch in diameter.
The tornado watch initially affecting Morris and Wabaunsee counties has now been expanded. Lyon and Osage counties are now included. The watch concludes at midnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch effecting portions of east-central Kansas.
The watch includes Morris and Wabaunsee counties until midnight. Along with the risk of tornadoes, storms could also bring high winds capable of producing gusts as strong as 75 mph and hail up to the size of ping pong balls.
Stormy conditions remain a constant possibility through the rest of the week into the early half of the weekend with chances of showers and storms in the forecast all day Friday and Saturday before calmer conditions on Sunday.
