Shortly before the heavy rainfall from Thursday into Friday, Lyon County and several area counties were placed in a drought watch, according to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.
Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties were among 73 counties put in a watch late Thursday as recommended by administrators of the Kansas Water Office and the Governor’s Drought Response Team. This allows all agencies under the governor’s immediate jurisdiction to take drought response actions as warranted in the state’s drought response plan.
The US Drought Monitor does not have any counties in any level of drought as of its latest report Thursday morning.
