The Madison Bulldogs kicked off their 2021 campaign with a dominating win over the Herington Railers 52-6 Friday night.
The Bulldogs shook off a slow start to open the scoring late in the first quarter thanks to a 15-yard touchdown run by junior Bryson Turner. Senior Drew Stutesman would add two touchdown runs in the second quarter and senior quarterback Casey Helm would connect with junior Gavin Isch from 18 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 30-0 lead going into the locker room.
In the second half, Madison would maintain the momentum with a 42-yard touchdown run by Turner on the first play of the second half. Herington would answer with a 65-yard touchdown return, however, a 57-yard run by Turner and a three-yard touchdown pass from Helm to Stutseman would put the game away.
Turner led the Bulldogs offensively with 182 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Turner says it was a rough start but a good ending.
Head Coach Alex McMillian says he’s pleased to start the season off on a winning note, however, there is a lot of work that needs to be done heading into week 2.
With the win Madison begins the season 1-0 as Herington falls to 0-1.
