An Emporia man has been arrested on suspicion of rape, aggravated burglary and other criminal activity.
Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says officers responded to a western Emporia residence early Saturday for a report of aggravated burglary and rape by an armed man. As detectives investigated, they learned a woman in her 20s was home with her toddler when a male acquaintance got inside the residence, threatened both mother and child with a weapon and then raped the woman.
The suspect, 24-year-old Victor Joel Cardona Rivera, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, interviewed and subsequently booked on suspicion of aggravated burglary, rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and criminal threat. Formal charges are pending.
