The ongoing increase in coronavirus cases has triggered an increase in testing for the illness — so much so that Lyon County Public Health can’t handle the amount of recent requests. Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern explained on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday.
Millbern says the increase in testing is one of several signs “COVID crazy” might not be going away any time soon.
On the testing front, nearly 56 percent of Lyon County’s 32,100 residents have been tested at least once.
Millbern says Public Health offers rapid testing, but on a situational basis. The goal is to send tests to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for results, a process that can take up to 48 hours. However, people with a lot of close contacts or needing a near-immediate diagnosis can receive a rapid PCR test.
