The recent direction of COVID-19 cases at USD 251 North Lyon County have administrators and board members breathing a small sigh of relief.
During the board’s regular meeting Wednesday, Superintendent Bob Blair reported 14 students in quarantine and four students as new COVID positives — a far cry from the 60 student quarantines and 11 student positives from a week before. Still, 23 percent of the student population is in quarantine at this time and close to five percent is in isolation. Blair says a lot of teachers and staffers are asking the board to consider mandating mask use, although that’s a step the board did not address Wednesday.
The other main item for the board was to pass the budget, which it did after approving a separate item to exceed the revenue-neutral rate. The upcoming budget has a little more than $100,000 in additional taxes levied than last year’s budget and the mil levy is up fractionally.
Blair also updated the board on enrollment, which at 321 students is down from 345 at this time last year.
