For the second straight year, Relay for Life of the Flint Hills had to alter its signature event. And for the second straight year, organizers say things went well.
COVID-19 forced organizers to cancel the survivor’s walk and the main component of the event, the 24-hour walk. However, there was a remembrance ceremony at the Lyon County Fairgrounds before a drive-thru luminaria ceremony. Organizer Monica Schmidt:
Schmidt says there were around 300 luminaria bought for the event, topping last year’s prior record of around 250. Fundraising totals could be announced early in the week, and Schmidt is expecting the event will at least reach goal of $20,000. For the raffles, Dustin Dubree was announced as the winner of the custom-designed necklace courtesy of Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal. Cody Shafer won a special Otterbox cooler from Triad Leasing.
