The Emporia State football team defeated Central Oklahoma 31-21 Saturday. Coach Garin Higgins called it a good team win.
Central scored 1st on a 20-yard touchdown run by their quarterback Stephon Brown.
Emporia State would score 21 unanswered points. Emporia State quarterback Braden Gleason threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Dexton Swinehart, a 10-yard pass to Tommy Zimmerman and Billy Ross Junior added a 2-yard touchdown run.
Central would tie the game at 21 on a 5-yard touchdown run by Markiese King and Jayce Gardner 19 yard run.
Emporia State retook the lead on a 22-yard field goal by Sam Dobbins.
The final score came on a Braden Gleason to Dalton Cowen 9 yard pass.
Gleason finished the night throwing for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Emporia State defense kept the pressure on Centrals quarterbacks finishing with 7 sacks.
Dawson Hammes was the leading tackler finishing with 8 tackles including 1 sack.
The Hornets improve to 2-0 for the season. They play at Missouri Western next Saturday.
