Emporia State University has been listed as the highest-ranked public regional institution in Kansas.
US News has ESU tied for 20th on its Midwest regional list for public institutions and 82nd overall on a list combining public and private colleges and universities. The rankings involve student outcomes, expert opinions, faculty resources, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving.
The Midwest region involves 12 states.
ESU is also the only public Kansas regional college or university listed on the US News “social mobility” ranking, coming in at 56th. Social mobility, which refers to changes in social positions over time, measures how well schools graduate students receiving Pell Grants — which normally go to students where household family incomes are lower than $50,000.
President Allison Garrett says the rankings announced Monday demonstrate ESU’s ongoing success in preparing students for the future, including the creation of new academic programs related to changing business or cultural needs.
