The number of juveniles allegedly involved in the 2017 murder of Jesus Avila that will be charged as adults is now at three.
On Friday, Andrew Granado, now 21, waived a motions hearing, clearing the way for him to be charged as an adult along with Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde, 21, and Armando Nunez, 20, who have already been charged as adults. A preliminary hearing is on the docket for Nov. 8-12.
The other two suspects, 19-year-old Alan Alanis and 20-year-old Jovan Pecina, are currently being tried as juveniles but prosecutors are working to try them as adults.
All five were charged last month with a single count of first-degree murder with an alternate count of felony murder. They also face single counts of conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, arson and interference with law enforcement.
Avila’s body was found in a burned-out near Roads 160 and T in early September 2017.
