The United Way of the Flint Hills 2021 fundraising campaign kicked off in a big way Tuesday.
The organization’s now annual drive-thru food drive again served as the official kick-off to the campaign after coronavirus forced a cancellation of the original kickoff celebration last month. For hours, the parking lot outside of the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building was busy as local residents stopped through to drop off a range of donations including non-perishable food items, basic hygiene products and cleaning supplies.
All donations will be going to United Way community partners throughout the local area. United Way Director Mickey Edwards says there is always a significant need for items such as this in the local community.
She says she’s proud to be a part of an effort that not only brings awareness to this need but also helps to address it.
Donation totals are currently pending, however, hundreds of vehicles stopped by the Fairgrounds during the roughly 90-minute event. Edwards stated she is not only proud of the community’s turnout Tuesday, but its constant willingness to step up and support those less fortunate.
This year’s campaign goal is $475,000 and Edwards says she is very confident they will reach goal especially with the leadership of Campaign Drive Chair Mike Argabright.
