Repairs have been completed on a small water line that failed outside Emporia’s Bunge crush facility Tuesday.
Public Works Director Dean Grant says a 3-inch line broke in the middle of the intersection at Sixth and East. Reports of water issues began coming into Lyon County Emergency Communications after 2 pm, and excavation started shortly before 5 pm. The line was repaired shortly after 9 pm.
Street repairs are next, and there is no word on when the cutout will be fully repaired. In the meantime, the inside eastbound and westbound lanes for Sixth Avenue traffic are closed at the intersection. Northbound and southbound traffic on East can work around the cutout zone.
It’s the third break near Bunge since February. A 3-inch line failed just north of the facility in late February after another water line failed in the 500 block of East, just west of the complex.
