Questions and conversations regarding the creation of a new position within Lyon County highlighted a special study session for Lyon County Commissioners Wednesday morning.
The topic of conversation was the potential creation of a second public information officer. At this time, the county has a PIO for emergency situations leading commissioners to ask the question as to whether or not there is a significant need for a second. Commissioner Scott Briggs.
According to Briggs, the conversations of a new PIO began amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic ans the need for a “one voice” source of information which Briggs feels the current PIO is capable of being. Additional conversations regarding marketing of the county have also played into the new PIO role which Briggs feels is a different discussion altogether.
No formal decision has been made on the PIO position and conversations are anticipated to continue on the topic at a later time.
Separately, commissioners also traveled to Roads P5 and 70 for a fence viewing.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly action session Thursday during which time commissioners will hold a public hearing on the aforementioned fence at Roads P5 and 70. Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods will also present a quote from Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company for a used Caterpillar grader and a 2007 Caterpillar 12H grader for a total of $125,700.
Three executive sessions are also planned. The meeting will begin at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
