It was another roller coaster ride for the Emporia High football team Thursday night in a 28-20 loss to Topeka High.
The Spartans scored first on an 88-yard touchdown pass from Cam Geitz to Kaden Woydziak that was set up by a fumble recovery at the Emporia High 12 yard line.
The Spartan took a 13-0 lead on a 14-yard touchdown run by Derek Keys that was set up by a Bobby Trujillo interception.
Topeka High would score the next two touchdowns with the 2nd one coming as time expired in the first half.
Emporia High then scored on a Jackson Dial pick 6, giving the Spartans a 20-14 lead.
The rest of the night belonged to Topeka High.
Emporia High did have a chance to score late in the game but could not get the ball in the endzone.
Coach Keaton Tuttle called it a good effort but they need to be better.
Emporia High quarterback Cam Geitz had a solid night completing 11 of 20 passes for 226 yards and 1 touchdown. But the Spartans managed only 20 yards rushing. With the loss, Emporia High is now 0-3 for the season. They are scheduled to host Highland Park next Friday.
