The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Greenwood County Deputy responding to an injury crash was involved in a fatality accident Thursday afternoon.
Troopers say Deputy James Cude was northbound on CC50 Road north of Fall River and was in the process of turning west onto US Highway 400 when his SUV collided with an eastbound motorcycle driven by 58-year-old Karl Sturm of Republic, Missouri.
Sturm was pronounced dead about three hours after the crash. Cude suffered suspected minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
Cude was operating lights and sirens when the crash happened, according to troopers. Sturm was not wearing a helmet.
