It was a heartbreaking 38-37 loss for the Emporia State football team at Missouri Western last night.
Emporia State built a 28-7 lead at halftime on a 52-yard punt return by Billy Ross Jr. Braden Gleason threw 2 touchdown passes to Tommy Zimmerman and Calvin Boyce scored on a 1-yard run.
But in the 2nd half Missouri Western outscored the Hornets 31 to 9. Western scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass, a 16-yard touchdown pass, a 42-yard touchdown run, a safety, and a 1-yard touchdown run.
Coach Garin Higgins said they did not get the job done.
Freshman Billy Ross Jr also scored on a 3-yard pass reception with 1:29 to play in the game to give the Hornets a chance to win the game but was unable to convert the two point extra point try.
Junior linebacker Cade Harelson led the defense with 15 total tackles, he said they have to be better.
The Hornets are now 2-1 for the season. They play at Pittsburg State next Saturday.
