Most of Commercial Street north of Sixth Avenue is now paved as part of a street preservation project.
Last week, crews put asphalt down on both northbound and southbound Commercial between 12th and Eighth, as well as the northbound half of the street between Eighth and Sixth. Commercial Street southbound between Eighth and Sixth should be paved Monday.
Crews will then jump Sixth and pave Commercial to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. Crews will also mill and overlay Sixth between Mechanic and Neosho before the over $620,000 city-state project ends around Halloween, weather permitting, thus repaving Emporia’s downtown core affecting Kansas Highway 99 and US Highway 50.
Separately, Lyon County’s fog seal project should end Monday. The project, which began two weeks ago on Road 130 just east of Kansas Highway 99, will finish with two work zones — Road F from Road 320 north to US Highway 56 and Road K-5 between K-99 and Road 70.
Another road project near Emporia begins Tuesday. Road 170 between Roads F and G will be closed for at least two weeks for unspecified road work.
