COVID-19 traffic in Emporia Public Schools showed some positive signs last week.
At USD 253 Emporia, the district reported 18 new student positives, down slightly from the 22 logged for Sept. 3-9. nearly 30 students entered home quarantine, up eight from the prior week, and over 60 students entered the modified test-to-learn quarantine option, double the mark from the previous week. There was one staff positive, the same as the previous week, and there was one staff quarantine, down from four the prior week.
For USD 251 North Lyon County, there were no new positives or quarantines for students and staff alike. The week of Sept. 7-12 had five new student positives and 18 new student quarantines but no infection or quarantine activity for staff.
New information from USD 252 Southern Lyon County is currently pending. Emporia Christian School and Sacred Heart do not have their COVID stats posted online.
For higher education, Emporia State University announced eight new positives after four positive tests the week of Sept. 4-10. ESU now has 21 positive cases since the fall semester began.
Flint Hills Technical College has two active cases as of Sept. 13 and two students in quarantine. There have been 11 total positive cases at the college since the fall semester got underway.
College-age students ages 18-23 still lead Lyon County’s overall caseload and now has surpassed 800 total cases at 802. Eleven cases are active in this age group. Children under age 18 now number 583 total cases with 33 currently active.
