The #6 ranked Emporia State soccer team defeated Washburn 2-1 in their home opener Sunday.
Hannah Woolery scored both goals for Emporia State. She scored the first goal on a free kick in the 9th minute of play.
Washburn tied the match in the 19th minute of play.
Woolery scored the 2nd goal on a header in the 65th minute of play.
The Lady Hornets outshot Washburn 17-4 and 6-3 on goal.
Coach Bryan Sailer said second-half adjustments paid off.
Emporia State is scheduled to host Nebraska Kearney Friday.
