Hearings continue for one of two Hartford residents accused of animal cruelty in a case that came to light earlier this year.
Near the end of a pretrial hearing Monday in Lyon County District Court, Rhonda Staggs agreed to a plea hearing. Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman says the hearing will be Oct. 13, a day after Staggs’ husband, Thomas Staggs, is set for a jury trial in his part of the case.
Both face 17 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty after Lyon County law enforcement and the private group Guardians of the Wolves went to 303 East Grand in Hartford in late May. Seventeen dogs were taken to undisclosed locations after the alleged rescue.
